Spread Traffic Load and More with Our Server Clustering Solution

Remove the single point of failure from a traditional setup.

Get the increased availability and load capacity your business needs.

The Access Server clustering feature uses a DNS-based round-robin system to spread the load – connections, data communications – and run a high-availability Access Server deployment.

Features

Benefits of Server Clustering

Access Server lets you cluster multiple servers to make scaling and redundancy fast and easy.

  • Higher Load Capacity and Availability

An Access Server cluster is an active-active, high-availability setup – all nodes within your cluster are active and will allow incoming connections simultaneously.

  • Horizontal Scalability

An Access Server cluster makes it easy to horizontally scale your deployment, instead of upgrading to a more powerful server, to meet increased user connectivity demand.

  • Reduced Connection Costs

All servers within a cluster share a single subscription, minimizing cost and maximizing server utilization.

  • Redundancy – No Single Point of Failure

With clustering your network is protected against downtime – if an outage happens, another server in the cluster picks up the load.

  • Higher Performance, Lower IaaS Costs

Distributing connections among more servers, and deploying them geographically closer to your employees, reduces your IaaS costs while boosting performance.

  • Single Address for VPN Connections

The servers within an Access Server cluster work together and accept the same credentials and certificates for your users while displaying to users as a single Access Server.

FAQs

With a high-availability, active-active cluster setup, you only need one subscription. With a single subscription purchased on our site, you can handle the licensing needs for all of the Access Server nodes in your cluster. The nodes simply share the available connections from the subscription as needed. You can adjust your subscription at any time from the Access Server portal on our site.

Find the details on our subscription here: Access Server pricing.

The benefit of providing an active-active setup is that you have more than one node running at any given time. Suppose a user connects with node one, but that node fails. The user is only disconnected briefly while their VPN client makes a new connection with node two. The nodes share configuration and subscription information so the user has the same access for a connection on any node.

Set up a new Access Server, install the latest Access Server build on it, and log on to the Admin Web UI. From there, go to Cluster and choose Join existing cluster. You will then enter the database credentials to connect and join the cluster.

If you are using an existing Access Server with users and configurations, adding it to a cluster will then wipe this node clean. It will get its user certifications and other information from the cluster instead.

Additionally, you can automate this with a command line script. For specific details, please submit a request for support.
