Connecting

Abstract

How to connect VPN clients for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android to your Access Server with our app, OpenVPN Connect.

The topics in this section help you connect to Access Server with the VPN client, OpenVPN Connect.

Access Server's bundled clients

Access Server hosts a Client Web UI where your end users can download bundled clients, which consists of OpenVPN Connect bundled with a connection profile configured for the user account.

You can refer to our tutorial, First time connecting to Access Server with OpenVPN Connect.

  1. Enter the server IP address or its custom hostname to open the Client Web UI in a web browser.

    Tip

You access the Admin Web UI from the same IP address or custom hostname but at the admin directory. For example, https://123.45.67.89/admin.

  2. Your users must sign in with valid credentials. For information on setting up users, refer to Adding Users to Access Server.

  3. Once signed in, users can download the OpenVPN Connect app for their platform or a connection profile — both are pre-configured for accessing your organization’s Access Server.

How to import a profile using the OpenVPN Connect app

Users can import a connection profile from your Access Server if they already have OpenVPN Connect installed on their device.

Refer to Import a profile for the steps to import from a URL or a downloaded file.

OpenVPN client compatibility

Access Server is compatible with the OpenVPN protocol — an open-source standardized protocol. Apps that support the OpenVPN protocol can connect to Access Server.

Our official OpenVPN Connect app supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS operating systems. Most open-source and third-party commercial OpenVPN client programs and devices also support these operating systems.

Important

Due to the enormous flexibility of OpenVPN software, certain configuration choices can block or disable some options on a client device, which can prevent a successful connection.
