Import a Profile
You must import a connection profile to connect to a server with OpenVPN Connect. You can import from a URL or a file downloaded to your device.
You can import any number of profiles using these steps.
If your VPN provider supports this option, you can import a profile directly from the server.
Click or tap the add icon.
The Import Profile screen displays.
On the URL tab, enter the URL for your VPN server and click or tap Next.
The authentication screen displays.
Enter your authentication credentials for the authentication method: Basic Authentication, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), or SAML Authentication.
Note
Depending on your provider and the authentication method, the authentication screen may vary in steps and exact wording.
The new profile displays in your app.
To establish a connection to a server, you can import a connection profile file into OpenVPN Connect by browsing for the file, dragging and dropping it, or double-clicking on it. Follow the steps below for the process of your choice.
Browse for file
Obtain the .ovpn file from the VPN server or provider.
Save it to a location on your device.
Launch OpenVPN Connect.
Tap or click the add icon.
The Import Profile screen displays.
Tap or click the File tab.
Tap or click Browse.
Tip
On Windows or macOS, you can also drag and drop the .ovpn file here.
Navigate to the .ovpn file and upload.
The new profile displays in your app.

Obtain the .ovpn file from the VPN server or provider.
Save it to a location on your device.
Launch OpenVPN Connect.
Click the add icon.
The Import Profile screen displays.
Click the File tab.
Drag and drop your .ovpn profile to the screen.
The Imported Profile screen displays with the profile name, server hostname, and username.
Click Connect to immediately connect, or click the back icon to return to the Profiles screen.
Double-click on .ovpn file (Windows and macOS)
Obtain the .ovpn file from the VPN server or provider.
Save it to a location on your device.
Double-click on the file.
OpenVPN Connect launches and displays the Import .ovpn profile prompt.
Click OK.
The Imported Profile screen displays with the profile name, server hostname, and username.
Click Connect to immediately connect, or click the back icon to return to the Profiles screen.
OpenVPN Connect doesn't provide VPN service
OpenVPN Connect works with all OpenVPN protocol-compatible VPN servers or services but doesn't offer a built-in VPN service. Instead, it's the way you connect with your VPN service through a connection profile.
