What Is A VPN?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides businesses with a securely encrypted connection to a network over the public Internet.

The term ‘VPN’ is often used to refer to personal tools for individuals that can keep IP addresses anonymous. This is somewhat of a misnomer, as these consumer tools do not actually create an entire virtual private network, but rather a more secure, ‘private tunnel’ to your online network of choice by encrypting your data and rerouting it through their servers so that your IP address and activity remains hidden from your ISP and potential hackers.
