What Is Social Engineering?
Social engineering is a tactic involving deception and manipulation to get victims to willingly disclose information that can be used for fraudulent purposes.
Rather than utilizing specialized software or malware to break into systems, social engineering depends on the human element to gain access to sensitive data. Social engineering can range from an email campaign designed to collect banking information, to a fake account on social media that is collecting personal data.
