Install OpenVPN Connect on Android
Overview
Install OpenVPN Connect on Android devices for use with OpenVPN servers. This applies to the OpenVPN open-source project and other VPN services that use the OpenVPN protocol.
Prerequisites
An Android device running a supported version of Android.
Access to an OpenVPN server or a connection profile from a VPN provider using the OpenVPN protocol.
A valid VPN configuration file or connection URL.
Installation steps
Download and install the OpenVPN Connect app:
Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
Search for OpenVPN Connect.
Tap Install to download and install the app.
Open the app:
Once the installation is complete, open the OpenVPN Connect app.
Review and agree to the data usage policy.
Import a VPN profile:
The Import Profile screen appears when you first open the app.
You can import your profile by doing one of the following:
Import from a file: If you have a
.ovpnprofile file, you can import it from your device storage or a cloud service like Google Drive.Import from a URL: If your VPN provider provides a connection URL, enter it to import the profile.
Import from a VPN provider: Some VPN providers allow direct profile imports through their apps or services.
Connect to the VPN:
After importing the profile, select the profile and tap Connect to establish a connection to the VPN server.
If prompted, grant OpenVPN Connect permission to create VPN configurations on your device.
Once connected, the VPN status shows as active.
