Do License Keys Expire?
Understand the differences between Access Server license types and what that means for expiration.
Question: How long do license keys last, and do they ever expire?
Answer:
The duration and expiration of license keys depend on the license type you're using:
Subscription license
Duration: These are monthly or yearly subscriptions for Access Server VPN connections.
Renewal: Subscriptions can be set to renew automatically. Changes to the subscription, such as the size or renewal settings, immediately license all Access Servers using that subscription.
Expiration: If a subscription isn't set to renew and expires, the Access Servers using this subscription will eventually be limited to only two concurrent VPN connections. You will receive email notifications before your subscription is due for renewal.
Fixed license
Duration: Fixed licenses are valid for a predetermined period, typically 1 to 5 years, depending on your selection at purchase.
Renewal: You must take action to renew. If you renew within the last month before expiration, the Access Server can automatically retrieve the renewal key. Otherwise, you will need to activate the new key manually.
Expiration: When a fixed license expires, it automatically disappears from your server, reducing the allowed connections to only two. Email notifications are sent before a fixed license expires.
AWS license
Duration: Licenses associated with AWS tiered instances have no end date. The license remains valid as long as the Access Server runs on AWS.
Billing: Billing is hourly but can be switched to annual for a discount. The billing stops only if the instance is stopped or terminated.
