How Can I Increase My License Connections?

Abstract

How do you increase the number of connections on your Access Server license?

Question: I already have a license; how do I increase the amount?

Answer:

Increasing the connections on your Access Server depends on your license type.

Subscription license:

  • Adjusting Connections: You can easily adjust the number of connections if you have a subscription license for Access Server. Sign in to the Access Server Portal, click on your subscription, and modify the number of connections. If you increase the number of connections, you will be charged for them; if you decrease them, you may receive a credit.

  • Flexibility: The subscription license model offers excellent flexibility. It can be activated on a single or multiple Access Servers and is ideal for automated deployments, LAN model failover, and clustering setups.

AWS license (tiered instances):

  • Fixed Connections: On Amazon AWS, we offer tiered instances billed directly through Amazon AWS, recognized by titles such as "(xx connected devices)" on the AWS Marketplace. Unfortunately, the number of VPN connections for these instances can't be adjusted due to how they are licensed and billed.

  • Changing Instance Tiers: To change the number of allowed VPN connections, you would need to launch a new instance in a different tier or a BYOL type that allows the use of a software subscription license. Ensure you migrate your Access Server data to maintain continuity for installed VPN clients. Consider transferring the Elastic IP or updating the DNS record if you use a hostname for VPN connections.

Fixed license:

  • Adding More Keys: With a fixed license, the number of connections is set and can't be altered for an individual key. However, you can activate additional fixed license keys on the same Access Server. For example, if your server currently has a 10-connection fixed license, you can add another 20-connection license to increase your total to 30 connections.
