Tutorial: Set Launch Options (Windows and macOS)
Configure OpenVPN Connect to launch automatically after device reboot with launch option settings.
OpenVPN Connect includes a Launch Option setting that controls how the app behaves when your operating system starts or when you sign in. This setting is available on Windows and macOS versions of the app.
Use this feature to configure automatic behavior such as launching the app at startup, automatically connecting to your most recent profile, or restoring a previous VPN connection.
Step 1: Open OpenVPN Connect settings
Launch OpenVPN Connect.
Click or tap the menu icon.
Click or tap Settings.
Locate the Launch Option setting.
Step 2: Choose a launch option
Click to select your preferred launch option from the following:
Launch Option | Description |
---|---|
Start app | Launches the app after a reboot without connecting. |
Connect latest | Launches the app after a reboot and tries to connect to the latest connected profile in the list. |
Restore connection | Launches the app after a reboot and tries to reconnect to the profile that was connected before the app shut down. |
None | No actions taken after reboot. |
Tip
If you frequently connect to the same network, using Connect latest or Restore connection can save time and help maintain a secure, always-on connection.
Step 3: Save and restart
There is no save button—your selection is applied immediately. Restart your computer to verify that the behavior works as expected.
Notes
Launch options apply per device, not per profile.
You can disable or change the launch behavior anytime by revisiting the Settings > Launch Option setting.
