OpenVPN Data Channel Offload (DCO)
OpenVPN Connect 3.4 and newer on Windows supports OpenVPN Data Channel Offload (DCO).
OpenVPN Connect can use DCO technology to improve data speeds when used with a compatible service.
CloudConnexa supports DCO.
Access Server 2.12 and newer supports DCO.
OpenVPN 2.6.0 and newer supports DCO.
DCO on OpenVPN Connect Windows handles traffic more efficiently by improving the method of handling.
Before the introduction of DCO, the traffic had to be copied back and forth between the OpenVPN program and the operating system network layers. This introduced additional workloads and possible bottlenecks.
With DCO, the operating system handles the traffic with the Windows for DCO driver.
This uses the concept of handling data in the OS at the kernel level, introduced with CloudConnexa and Access Server 2.12.
Using DCO (Data Channel Offload)
OpenVPN DCO improves performance by offloading encryption and decryption to the kernel.
To enable DCO in OpenVPN Connect:
Ensure it's enabled with your VPN server.
