What's Access Server's BYOL Model?
How Access Server's license model works for licensing on cloud providers.
Question: What is the BYOL (bring your own license) licensing model for Access Server?
Answer:
The BYOL model allows you to install Access Server on any compatible platform and then purchase a license key from our website to license it for a specific number of VPN connections.
The BYOL model is ideal for users who want control over their hosting environment and prefer to manage their software licensing directly through OpenVPN. This model ensures that you can leverage existing infrastructure investments or specific compliance requirements that might not be met by other licensing options. For more information on how to purchase and activate your BYOL license, visit our pricing page.
Here’s how it works:
Installation flexibility:
Platform Independence: You can install Access Server on any supported hardware or virtual environment, allowing you to choose the infrastructure that best suits your needs.
Licensing Activation:
License Key: After installing Access Server, purchase a license key from the Access Server Portal. This key will license your server for the number of VPN connections specified in the purchase.
Exclusions:
AWS Licenses: The BYOL model does not apply to Amazon AWS tiered instances that use AWS licenses. These instances, identified by titles including "(xx connected devices)" on the AWS Marketplace, are activated and billed directly through Amazon AWS without the need for an external license key.
