Re: [Openvpn-users] TAP devices as default gateway

Title: [Openvpn-users] TAP devices as default gateway
Hi!

As you discovered, TAP and TUN can not be mixed (is stated in the manual...).
The redirect-gateway (recommend adding the "def1" parameter) option does
exactly that: makes the tunnel the default gateway.

Subject: [Openvpn-users] TAP devices as default gateway

Hi all,

i use openvpn with tapX devices and windows clients.
I wanne do NAT for the windows clients that the cliente is able to
access the internet over the vpn tunnel.

Here my server config:

dev tap2
ifconfig 192.168.0.105 255.255.255.0
port 1190
secret jerome.key
comp-lzo
keepalive 10 60
ping-timer-rem
persist-tun
persist-key
daemon

Client-Config has the following:

remote office.star-hosting.de
port 1180
dev tun
ifconfig 192.168.0.102 255.255.255.0
secret c:/Programme/OpenVPN/config/jerome.key
comp-lzo
keepalive 10 60
ping-timer-rem
persist-tun
persist-key
redirect-gateway
route-gateway 192.168.0.1 (vpn endpoint)

When i change the tap device to a tun device and change a bit the
config it works fine.

any ideas how do i use a vpn tunnel as default gw?

greetz
