I'm assuming that route output is from _after_ you connect with openvpn.  It
would be interesting to see what it was _before_ having connected with
openvpn (but after having connected with the ppp).  Actually, it would be
interesting to see `cat /proc/net/route` since that's what openvpn actually
uses on linux.

The error message shown is emitted when the openvpn is trying find the
default route so it can do redirect gateway.  It uses that route to store
for later restoration on disconnect or for synthesizing the /1 routes for
def1.

Actually, it might be even more useful to crank up the verb to 7 and grep
for GDG: as those messages are emitted during the default gateway location
process.  Then the actual process of locating the default gateway may be
observed.

I had a similar problem before, but on a very different OS, with locating
the default gateway on dialup adapters which hampered redirect-gateway.  The
code change made in that case is not useful here since it was not for linux,
but altering the logic did fix it.
