I have not looked at the routing tables, but I am pretty sure all the traffic is going through the tunnel. I have went to places such as ipchicken.com on the client and it gives me the servers ip address, I have also tested and the dns has been pushed sucessfully and all traceroutes flow through the vpn server. So I am pretty sure all traffic is going through the vpn, and even if some traffic wasn't, why would I only see a slow down of traffic, instead of a loss of connectivity?

Have you looked at the routing tables on OS X and Windows? Are you sure all traffic is going thru the tunnel in both cases?
I have been doing some research and this seems to be a common problem: a linux server and a windows client. If someone could help me determine why my windows client is slow when using my linux server, I will donate $50 USD in your name to the openvpn project. I really need to figure this out, and I can't seem to figure it out myself.
