I, too, am using FreeBSD 5.3 with OpenVPN.

I simply put OpenVPN in my /etc/rc.local file...

/usr/local/sbin/openvpn --config=server.conf

My server.conf has the appropriate flags to launch as a daemon, etc.

As for your second question, I am not sure if I understand what it is you want to do...
