[Openvpn-users] Interface setup for XP client / routing problem

  • Subject: [Openvpn-users] Interface setup for XP client / routing problem

First of all: I have openvpn up and running with
static keys for some time now - great stuff.

Setting up TLS worked fine as well.

When trying to upgrade to Server mode I experienced
the following problem:

My WinXP client is able to connect (using the GUI).
The server log says that the client received the
(dynamic) IP. But on the client side, a "print route"
shows that something goes wrong. I tried both ways:
1.) set a fixed IP to the TAP adapter (e.g.
192.168.5.5). In this case the client receives the IP
192.168.5.10 - but that is not mirrored in the client
routing table.
2.) set the IP in the TAP adapter to dynamic. In this
case nothing happens - and WinXP is "repairing" the IP
to its pre-set value. This does not help at all.

In both cases, it is not possible to ping the server
(because the route to 192.168.5.1 is missing). And all
other routes (e.g. 192.168.0.1/24) are missing as
well.

Where is my problem?
What should I look at?
How should I set up the TAP adapter?

Regards,

Oliver
