thank you so much. looking at your ascii-art, i changed the setup from the
iptables-marked way to the source-address-based routing as you suggested, and
you were right. now it's working.

but i still have in mind implementing a routing scheme that depends on source
and destination ports. perhaps some _more_ reading in the lartc-howto and
http://www.policyrouting.org/PolicyRoutingBook/ONLINE/TOC.html will help.
