You don't have to. Run the X-server on the client computer. Connect through ssh with X-forwarding to the VPN server. Run status utility on VPN server, windows will be displayed on client computer. With a normal (and on any sane distro default!) X setup this is as safe as it gets.


As an alternative, run X over a VPN link, we have this OpenVPN server anyhow. For a Windows setup, if you use rdp (wts) or vnc, this is probably necessary if you care about safety anyhow!
