A few things off the top of my head:

1. take out the http:// from the --remote option. OpenVPN doesn't speak HTTP.

2. What software is the HTTP proxy running? Can you get the error logs
from it? Judging by the port number, it looks like Squid. Make sure that
Squid will allow http connections to ports other than 80. I think it does
by default, but someone might hav changed it.
