[Openvpn-users] Invalid IP Address (0.0.0.0)

  • Subject: [Openvpn-users] Invalid IP Address (0.0.0.0)
  • From: Fabio Antonio Esquivel Chacón <fabio@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

I just uninstalled v2beta7 from my Windows 2003 Server and reinstalled v1.6, because with v2b7 I had a strange problem.

I then reconfigured the TAP adapter with the same configuration I had before for the server end-point:

- I manually set the IP to 10.3.2.1, mask 255.255.255.0, no gateway (there's already a default gateway on the external interface to the Internet and Windows complaints about configuring a different gateway to another interface, in this case, the TAP adapter).

- I rechecked the configuration settings in the VPN-00.ovpn:
dev tap
ifconfig 10.3.2.1 255.255.255.0
dev-node VPN-00
secret key.txt
ping 10
comp-lzo
cipher AES-256-CBC
verb 4
mute 10

- Finally, I start the OpenVPN service to get a log file
  (edited to avoid long lines):

... and the interface stays there, listening. However, when I go to see the TAP interface's IP address, it's invalid! :

Ethernet adapter VPN-00:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : TAP-Win32 Adapter
   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-FF-62-94-0B-FF
   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
   IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
   DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.3.1.2

Only the DNS info is right! I manually set the IP address with the Control Panel/Network connections applet and it's also specified in the .OVPN configuration file... Why is it 0.0.0.0?

I uninstalled v2b7 because I had the same behaviour and thought it was an error with the beta series... I had v1.6 before and the interface had it's IP address and mask correct, but now that I'm back to v1.6, the same behaviour remains!

What's wrong?
