[Openvpn-users] OpenVPN server packets intermittenly not sent

  • Subject: [Openvpn-users] OpenVPN server packets intermittenly not sent

Hey all,

I am still trying to track down this ping-restart on my server. Based on some previous advice I had gotten, and free time falling in line with the problem occuring, I made some discoveries, not really progress...

Anyway, on the client side at verb 5 I see...

RWRWRWWWWWWWWWW (ping restart at this point)

On the server side at verb 5 I see...

RWRWRWRWRWRWRWRW (Thu Dec 7 13:07:50 2006 us=552266 MULTI: multi_create_instance called )

Now if I packet sniff on both sides for the udp traffic I see that the client is reporting correctly (getting them for R, sending for W).

On the server however, the RWRW are correct up until the client stops reporting Reads. The openvpn log shows writes, but nothing is going out on that interface.

I noticed that the client port keeps changing each time, and that the multi_create is being called... can that be part of the problem?

Any ideas on where / what to try next would be great... This is also not constant... it comes and goes. The setup has good days and bad days.

Here is a netstat of the traffic on that interface. I am using a fixed width font, so hopefully this is readable for you. In short, there is no difference in the traffic levels between the working vpn and non-working.

The system bounces between 88-92% idle during work hours. This is a pretty decent server quality box, gigabit nic's and no other problems.
