[Openvpn-users] Windows client can't ping out.

Hello all,

  Just wanted to start by saying I did do my homework first.   I read
through the INSTALL, HOWTO and FAQ's before posting.   I even bought the
OpenVPN e-book and read the troubleshooting chapter.

  I'm running the latest 2.0 version of OpenVPN both on my Windows XP
client and on my FreeBSD server.   Both client and server have identical
configuration options (except for the client and server-specific ones,
of course).

  My problem is that while I can get a connection, I can't ping the remote
side of the tunnel from either the client or the server.   I believe the
problem is on my client end.

  If I open up the status windows for both the Win-TAP connection and the
actual network connection I'm using to connect to the net, I see a
couple things:

1) On my Win-TAP connection, I see a lot of outbound packets, but the
inbound packets is stuck at about 11 and never changes.

2) If I try to ping the other end of the tunnel from my client, I see the
outbound packet count on the Win-TAP device climbing, but the outbound
packet count on my ISP connection never changes.

  From everything I read, this points to most likely being a firewall
issue.  And given that the packets are never physically leaving my
machine, I'm assuming a local firewall issue.   But the rub here is that
I have the Windows firewall completely disabled in my control pannel.

  Can anybody suggest anything else that could be stopping the outbound
Win-TAP packets from reaching my ISP device and going out?   Or,
alternately, can anybody point out where I have failed in my deductive
reasoning so far?
