I would continue your stance "... other than for security".

I close all 135~139,445 ports, unbound NETBIOS from all instances of TCP/IP on all adapters. I need it to secure my laptop as a "roadwarrior" one - on no adapter, no matter what, there should not be any leak of any sensitive info.
