[Openvpn-users] Determining --fragment directive size

  • Subject: [Openvpn-users] Determining --fragment directive size

I'm a little unclear about how to calculate the value for fragment.
>From the man page:

The max parameter is interpreted in the same way as the --link-mtu
parameter, i.e. the UDP packet size after encapsulation overhead has
been added in, but not including the UDP header itself.

So if I have an MTU of 1500, do I set fragment to 1472, i.e., 1500 minus
8 bytes for the UDP header minus 20 bytes for the IP header? Of course,
I would guess that if I have an MTU of 1500, I do not need to set
fragment, do I?

Thanks - John
