Apparently, some aspect of the design of Microsoft Windows means point-to-point links need a subnet allocated. The smallest useful subnet is a 30 bit subnet mask (/30, netmask 255.255.255.252), which has 2 bits for the "node" part of the address. That means four values. One is used for the network address, one for the broadcast address, and two are available for hosts. -- Ben ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
