You start OpenVPN! That's your virtual wire.

Have you tried the OpenVPN GUI installation package? There you have an
option "Hide the Tap-Win32 adapter" that might be what you're looking for.
Keep in mind that that option will also hide the icon from "Network
Connections". Mosty you will use DHCP to set its IP address so you don't
need it anyway.
