The amount of time the certificate is valid for is determined based on
the settings in the openssl.cnf used for certificate generation. It also
may have the expiration time of the CA that owns it as an outer bound
for validity, so you should be sure your CA's certificate will be good
through the end date of your client certificates.

i never thought about re-creating my CA. whats the recommended method
of doing so with the easy-rsa scripts?
