All, I'm fairly new to the OpenVPN software and have a few questions regarding bridged connections on Windows Server 2003. I have configured OpenVPN in bridged mode as per the HowTO and have connected to it. However in the log files I still see: Tue Aug 02 20:26:41 2005 NOTE: could not get adapter index for \DEVICE\TCPIP_{56E841C6-CDB3-42B6-A160-281EAD0FB244}, status=55 : The specified network resource or device is no longer available. I dug around on the list archives and found openvpn --show-net would list all the network adapters, the command displays the following output: SYSTEM ADAPTER LIST MAC Bridge Miniport Index = 65539 GUID = {0AF63FC0-36A2-4ED3-999C-28EF53AA81D1} IP = 192.168.1.10/255.255.255.0 MAC = 02:ff:56:e8:41:c6 GATEWAY = 192.168.1.1/0.0.0.0 explaining the fact that it cannot find the tap device, but that is because the tap device is bridged with my NIC resulting in one "virtual" adapter. Is this normal behavior and if so does this hamper OpenVPN in any way? Secondly, my Tap network adapter appears to only be connected after a reboot. I have set the OpenVPN service to be automatic so it is started while the machine is coming up, however once the service is stooped, it will never connect that network adapter again which i find odd since it is using the same configuration file. Any information in these areas would be greatly appreciated. -David Cook
