That's not true anymore. There has been a port of the tun/tap package by Matthias Nissler for quite some time now (http://www-user.rhrk.uni- kl.de/~nissler/tuntap/).


I'd recommend the tunnelblick package which provides everything you need, including a GUI, the tun/tap drivers and openvpn itself in a simple package (http://tunnelblick.net/).
