And is the filename right and in the right place? (E.g. did you try putting sample.vpn instead of sample.ovpn? I don't often see four-character extensions at a C:> prompt... :) i found the error. The windows GUI file explorer said the name of the file was sample.ovpn a "dir" in the command prompt said sample.ovpn.txt So now openvpn at least tries to start up.
