I encountered similar problems with ssh tunnels. The problem may be the
proxy / firewall is configured for a select number or 'connect' ports.
Usually 443 is open so you may have to configure the tunnel to utilize
443 in lieu of 5000.
Again, this worked for me in a similar situation utilizing ssh.tunnels
from within a corporate intranet .
