I have seen several posts on this, but no "real" solutions.

The gateway server on the network is FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE, running Samba 2.2.7.

I am running OpenVPN 1.5.0 with Samba 2.2.7 on a FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE system as my main server.
I am running OpenVPN 1.5.0 on a Win2K machine as the client (single-client)

I have managed to open the VPN tunnel with no difficulties; routing is not an issue, either. I can ping across the tunnel, and I can use SSH to other computers on the FreeBSD ("HOME") network (using their internal IP addressses). In addition, I can view the webservers and services running on various machines on the HOME network. (Webmin, Apache, etcetera).

The Win2K machine is not behind anything -- it is connected directly to the internet and has a static IP address (205.201.57.xxx)
The FreeBSD machine is the gateway to the internet; it has an external (fixed) address (205.201.9.xxx) and an internal network (172.22.1.0/24)

Samba doesn't seem to be able to cross the tunnel, though. Samba fileshares are not browseable (from my Win2K client); in addition, I cannot connect to the Samba shares directly by using the ipaddress & sharename (i.e. "\\172.22.1.1\share").

The firewall does not seem to be the issue, as I opened it up (i.e. "allow all from any to any") completely in order to remove this possibility.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

I haven't chosen to include the options files, as (other than Samba) there do not seem to be any other issues.

Possibilities considered:

using IPFW "tee" command to divert appropriate ports to the tap device (the IPFW man page sections don't help much on this; I haven't tried it because I'm still figuring out the "tee" command)

setting Samba to listen on the TAP interface. [tried that, didn't interfere with anything, but didn't work, either]

setting Samba to listen to the TAP subnet (10.4.0.0/24) [tried, didn't interfere, but also didn't work, either]

Any help would be most appreciated.
