Jordi, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences trying to uninstall the Tap-Win32 driver. I've never seen this kind of problem before, though my general impression so far has been that Win2K is not as robust as XP when it comes to dynamic networking, i.e. loading and unloading drivers without an intervening reboot, and changing driver properties on the fly. The problem is that the networking models for both Win2K and XP look the same on paper, but in practice there are a lot of undocumented differences. For example, on XP you can install the driver and immediately begin using it. On Win2K a reboot appears to be required. To make things even more complex, different service pack levels often show different behavior. On Windows the task of loading and unloading drivers is done by the OS, not by the driver itself, so there's not much a driver can do to protect against these kinds of problems. I've already made some changes which will be released shortly in 1.5b10 including: * Providing options other than netsh to set the TCP/IP properties on the tap adapter. * Putting up a dialog box at the end of the Win2K install encouraging a reboot. So again, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the software and feel free to email me if you have any other questions or concerns. James Jordi <vklengh@xxxxxxxxx> said: > Hi all. Why? Easy, by then I tried to uninstall the Tap-Win32 adapter, from the programs Openvpn menu, and then to install it again. The result came into a nice mix of networking problems, until my w2k pro stopped any kind of activity. It was like winsock getting absolutely destroyed, it said everywhere: Can not perform a non socket operation... or something like this... Simply incredible... Openvpn destroyed my win2k in seconds. I Never managed to send a simple byte through the tunnel, having a theoretically good configuration & key in both sides. After reinstalling the entire operative system, Now I'm afraid of this program... and I think i won't be brave enough to install it again... destroying O.S is not really my passion nor yours i guess. ____________________________________________ Openvpn-users mailing list Openvpn-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openvpn-users Warning: require_once(../../../archive_common.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/openvpn/domains/openvpn.net/public_html/archive/openvpn-users/2003-10/msg00057.html on line 221 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '../../../archive_common.php' (include_path='/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/openvpn/domains/openvpn.net/public_html/archive/openvpn-users/2003-10/msg00057.html on line 221 |
